SUGGESTIONS for live music on Dawlish beach have been backed by almost 100 people.

The idea was raised in response to the popularity of live music being performed on Teignmouth’s back beach.

Now the new sea wall has been reopened with its new frontage and seating, there has been widespread discussion about bringing in bands and musicians which could be enjoyed by residents and visitors and benefit the town’s businesses.

Part of the newly constructed wall and promenade, near the Viaduct, has been put forward as an ideal space for performances.

Live music was previously put on at the Cove Cafe at Coryton last summer which went down a storm.

Responses on social media to the idea have been extremely positive.

They praised it as a ‘great idea’.

One said: ‘About time Dawlish got a bit livelier during the summer.’

Music at Coryton was described as having been ‘awesome’.

Barry Baker wrote: ‘It’s what goes on in Dawlish makes it popular.

‘We have been losing out for a long time while the wall was built so it would be good to get something back from it.’

Helen Caughey added: ‘When the Cove Cafe had various bands playing down there a couple of summers it was great.

‘Definitely would love to see it.’

Andy Byrne pointed out: ‘We have some very talented local performers.’

It was thought such events would be a good draw for the evenings during the summer months.

And it was pointed out that the new construction appears to have a space which would be suitable for bands to perform.

Town councillor Rachel Hardy said: ‘The first thing I noticed when the wall opened was the potential stage, all sorts of possibilities there.’
