A teenager washed off the Teignmouth sea wall by a huge wave has told the Post: 'I thought I was going to die and began thinking of all the people I love.'

Luckily Marcus Baz, 16, of Shaldon, survived the ordeal after being rescued by the Teignmouth lifeboat late on Monday afternoon, and put it down to his surfing experience and fitness.

He and a friend, Jamie Brooks, 18, from Dawlish, were jogging along the wall from the Holcombe direction when they were both swept off their feet and into the sea by a wave on the Dawlish side of Sprey Point.

A passer-by immediately phoned the emergency services.

Jamie managed to clamber back to the shore, but Marcus was thrown against the wall several times by the raging sea.

'Fortunately I was then washed away from the wall, because another hit against the wall could have knocked me unconscious,' said Marcus.
