IT'S only a short stretch of road, but the perceived problems on the seafront Upper Den Carriageway in Teignmouth are perplexing councillors, and taking up a lot of their time.

And they are not sure what to do about it.

The seafront highway is closed off to traffic in the summer, but off-season is free from parking restrictions.

It is usually full by early morning with motorists parking all day, or longer, and attracts motorhomes, some staying overnight or longer.

Town councillors are divided over the solution – if there is one.

Suggestions include installing parking meters, but charging only a nominal fee so places can be turned over more fairly, banning camper vans, and just leaving the free for all as it is.
