A Bovey Tracey businessman has chosen the hard way to realise his £20,000 vision of building an orphanage in India. Sean Taylor, 36, is all set to take part in the gruelling 151-mile Marathon des Sable in Morocco later this month. He hopes that sponsorship and motivational talks he intends to give following the event will raise the cash he needs. The terrain he will cover is a mixture of sand dunes, rocky desert and stony ground and everything required for the six-day adventure, including a tent, must be carried on his back. During the day, Mr Taylor, chief executive of Bovey Tracey-based company The Plastic Surgeon Group, can expect temperatures to soar to more than 50C, but at night plunge to just above freezing. A keep fit enthusiast and veteran of many marathons, the father-of-two said the idea to build the orphanage emerged during a trip to India with friends who run a charity, World Christian Ministries. 'We went out a few years ago to help refurbish a children's home and, to be honest, I found things were pretty dire,' he said. 'I just felt we needed to do something about it.' Several firms and individuals have already contributed towards Mr Taylor's £20,000 goal, but he still needs to raise a further £15,000 if his dream of a new orphanage is to come true.
