Residents are invited to find stories, photographs and souvenirs of our monarch for an exhibition at a celebratory Big Breakfast in the town hall.
Ann Bovey, one of the organisers, said: ‘We’re creating a lovely exhibition of people’s memories to display alongside work from the local pre-school group, who are drawing or painting a picture of what they think the Queen looks like, but we need many more.
‘Please send us your memories as soon as you can, and by March 18 at the latest, to include in the exhibition on April 2.’
Resident Mike Harris has submitted his memory of watching the Queen’s coronation in London as a senior scout.
In his account he said: ‘Suddenly the gold coach appeared. We all saluted as the Queen passed us. She was smiling and waving.
‘The whole procession seemed to pass so quickly. Everyone was shouting and cheering, all the coaches of royalty of many countries.
‘After the procession had passed, an official from Canada House invited our group to the top of Canada House where we watched the procession going down the Mall to Buckingham Palace. It was a day to remember.’
Stories, photographs and souvenirs can be submitted to Ms Bovey by calling her on 01364 654772 or sending an email to her at [email protected].
