A violent attack on a security guard outside Tesco Express in Kingsteignton on May 11 left him needing hospital treatment. The attack by four masked or hooded men occurred at about 8.40pm. They hit the security guard, a man in his 20s, across the ribs with a metal baton and stole a substantial quantity of cash before making their escape in a blue Metro car. The car had been stolen from Gestridge Road, Kingsteignton, shortly before the robbery, and was later found abandoned in Hackney Marshes car park, near the Kingsteignton Indoor Bowling Club. Police are anxious to trace the occupants of a car in the Hackney Marshes car park at 8.45pm on May 11, as they may have seen the Metro being abandoned by the raiders. Police would also like to speak to another possible witness of the crime – the rider of an orange-coloured motorcycle that was driving past Tesco Express at the time of the attack. The rider is described as bearded and wearing an open-face crash helmet. He was travelling in the direction of Newton Abbot. A substantial sum of money is being offered as a reward by the security firm for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the robbers and the subsequent recovery of the stolen cash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 08452 777444, quoting reference no JN 06 1422.
