IT WAS celebrations all round at a Kingsteignton-based charity after it received a glowing report from the Care Quality Commission.
Shared Lives South West was deemed to be providing an overall ‘good service’ and the commission highlighted that the charity has helped change ‘lives for the better.’
The charity provides personal care for adults who have learning disabilities, mental health needs or physical disabilities and for older people.
The five-day inspection also found the charity to be ‘outstanding’ in the ‘is the service responsive’ section.
‘The Shared Lives philosophy places great emphasis on treating people as individuals and respecting their rights as citizens, while providing personalised support to improve people’s abilities, confidence and life experience,’ the report states.
Sally Crombie, the registered manager for the charity, said: ‘This was a great outcome.
‘It reflects all the hard work everyone has put in, while also recognising that there is still a bit of room for improvement.
‘We have a plan to get the carers and people who use the services fully engaged in Shared Lives so that they consistently play a part at every stage, including the recruitment and assessment of new carers.
‘We would like to get outstanding across all areas next time.’
