A SHOUT-off was held in Ashburton to find a new town crier.
Contestants stood outside the town hall and bellowed to the judges and an assembled group of residents to compete for the esteemed title.
And one contestant, who could not attend, had his recorded cry played out to the crowd through a laptop and microphone.
Edric Waghorn won the contest and will be sworn in to his new position on Ashburton’s traditional Law Day in November, alongside the town’s new portreeve, bailiff, and baron and leet courts.
