BOVEY Tracey florist Kate Bainbridge won a top accolade at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show last week.

Her Fantasy Floral Parasol gained her a Silver Gilt Grenfell award – akin to second place – in the Royal Horticultural Society's Florist of the Year competition.

Just three gilts were awarded and only two golds in the competition.

Kate – who, like the other 12 competitors – won her heat to reach the Chelsea finals, had only a few weeks to create the parasol, a set piece, for the show.

Teignbridge's other hope – Holly Williams, of Bouquets Florists, Newton Abbot – was unlucky not to gain a placing in the RHS Young Florist of the Year competition. But both she and Kate will be aiming to appear again next year.
