SKIPPER Mark Halse won the toss and put Cockington in on what appeared to be a difficult track to bat on.

Wickets fell early on to Graeme Wilson (4-35) which put Chudleigh in the driving seat, with Cockington struggling on 60-5.

However, a combination of poor fielding, better batting, Matt Needham (53), and the odd umpire's decision got Cockington back on track and they recovered to a respectable 163, losing their last wicket in the penultimate over. Matt Needham was supported well by Scott Colgate (22) who put on 39 for the sixth wicket.

Chudleigh's reply started in the same way as Cockinton's innings, losing early wickets, with Scott Colgate (3-33) the pick of the bowlers.

When Jan Bothma (25) smashed the stumps with his bat in attempt to stop the ball rolling back on them, and Nick Halse was brilliantly caught by Sean Needham, Chudleigh were 74-5 and in trouble.

However, a partnership of 53 between Ben Tucket (11) and Mark Halse steadied the ship. When Tuckett went, quickly followed by Martin, Cockington were back in it.

Rob Clarke (12) came in to support Halse and together they got the 37 runs required to win with several overs to spare.

Fittingly it was the Halse (53 not out), who finished the game with a six to reach his 50 and win the match.

Axminster are the visitors to Kate Brook tomorrow and, with the Chudleigh side back up to full strength, they will be looking for their fourth victory in a row.
