NEARLY £1,500 was raised at the weekend when 40 youngsters took to their skateboards for a 24-hour skate-a-thon, in a bid to raise much-needed funds.

The Newton Abbot-based charity, which was set up in 2014 by locals with a passion for wheeled sports, held the fundraiser in a bid to get a new indoor skatepark floor.

Each youngster that took part raised between £25 and £89, stacking up to an impressive £1,400.

Rachel Spence, mother of Luke Spence, who took part in the skate-a-thon, said: ‘My son loved every minute.

‘He met new friends and stayed up as late as he could to ensure they achieved the 24 hours.

‘There is a great atmosphere at the lodge, and everyone is so friendly and supportive.’
