From the moment we all joined Muddles’ gang on Friday night we knew we were in for a treat as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs took to the Princess Theatre stage, writes Richard Bray.

Played by funny man and impressionist Aiden J Harvey, Muddles and cook Sarah Spoilit (panto dame stalwart Sean Luckham) were responsible for most of the comedy moments, including plenty of slapstick, with the outlandish clothes worn by Sarah ‘I think I’ll have a sweety’ bringing gasps of wonder – or was it horror! – every time she arrived on the stage.

Even the one-liners hit the spot – well, the groan spot! I’m wearing Manchester United perfume – it’s called Wayne Rooney Mist!

Taking the role of Snow White is Helen Kent, who was ably looked after by the magnificent seven real dwarfs – Colonel, Growler, Cheerful, Dozey, Sniffles, Shy and Snorer (Max Laird, Karen Anderson-Laird, Denise Dove, Tilly Wilkes, Ainsleigh Barber, Francesa Mula and Geoffrey Sergison respectively). It was just a pity that we did not see more of them.

Playing Prince Valentine is David Heath from boy band Eton Road, with Hollyoaks’ Marcus Patrick taking the part of the Huntsman, and were very dapper in their respective roles.

Rachel White as evil Queen Malevola positively revelled in the hissing and booing that was directed at her, and for me she was one of the stars of the night, her engaging smile making her one of the loveliest evil queens in panto land.

But don’t let that fool you – her treatment of Snow White was really evil!
