THE Bungalow Youth Project has asked Buckfastleigh Council to help with its wages bill.

Buckfastleigh Development Trust, which runs the project, has asked the council to part-fund an assistant youth officer post at £1,500 a year for the 'medium term' – around five years.

Since the Bungalow's £250,000 refurbishment, numbers have soared. In April attendance topped 500, the trust chairman told councillors at last Tuesday's meeting.

Prof Tim Drey said: 'This is a very good investment. If the Bungalow were to close the social cost would be considerable.

'We know from feedback from various organisations that the bungalow has had a considerable effect on reducing disturbance in the town. Without the bungalow there would be a significant rise in unruly behaviour.'
