A HAIR-BRAINED idea to have leg-hair waxed-off was the latest charity fundraiser for staff of the Moretonhampstead Co-op store last week.

Greg, Mark, Joe and Gary waxed their arms and legs to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

This fearless foursome all man the tills at Moreton’s Co-op store.

The idea was suggested by a beautician at Beauty No 8 in the town.

The decision to go hair-free was something the chaps said they were already regretting, even upon announcing it to the community.

Donations have now reached a hair-raising £850 and donations are still welcome.

Mental health charity Mind is the official charity of the year for the Co-op group.

Greg Brow who took the extra step of getting his armpit waxed said it was ‘excruciating’.

He added: ‘Everyone said I was the wimp, I didn’t shed a tear but I can’t say I was keen on it. Everyone else breezed through, apparently.’

Greg was still trying to get used to his new legs.

‘They’re really cold’, he said. ‘I can’t believe how effective leg hair is at keeping you warm. ‘

According to Bekah Austin, the owner of the salon who suggested the leg wax ‘as a joke’, it was in fact two of the lads who whimpered and two who handled it very well. The two chaps shall remain nameless.

Bekah, who has performed hundreds of waxes since moving into her new premises around 15 months ago, said there’s a clear difference between the genders.

‘Ah, women handle it so much better’ said Bekah.‘Compared to my normal clients they were all far more wimpish!’

Bekah added: ‘I’ve known the chaps for a while as I go into the shop most days.

‘I suggested the idea one day – for a joke. The next thing I know four of them have all agreed to do it.’

Bekah donated her time and space to the cause at Beauty No 8.
