EIGHTEEN spares were floored in the Newton Abbot and District Skittles League Division Two match between Late'uns and Teignton Stars, at the Newton Abbot Royal British Legion, writes John Balment.
Late'uns came out on top with the highest team score of the week – 442 – with Chris Bunning on the best individual return of 74 (9, 16, 9, 18, 14, 8).
Teignton Stars finished on 396, with Derek Old getting a hat-trick of spares in his 63.
On the same alley there were 21 spares in the Premier Division clash between Bottlewashers and Crusaders in which the former took the spoils 436-405 to move into joint second place, two points off the pacesetters, Cricketers.
Richard Pike was the in-form player with 63 for Bottlewashers, with Rob Shaw on 59 for the visitors.
Forde Alls made it eight from eight in Division Six, captain Marcus Crocker leading by example with 67, on Forde Hall two, in their 417-369 win over Oakapples for whom Pat Whane had first and last end spares in her 60.
Also retaining their 100 per cent record were Southern Comforts who won their Division Three game 384-364 against Tumblers, on Kingsteignton RBL alley two. Iain Howarth was the toast of Southern Comforts with 63.
In the same division, Darrin Burley guided Falcons to a 364-336 local derby success over Dumplings at Teignbridge 76 Club, scoring 71 (5, 7, 12, 16, 18, 13) in the process.
One pin separated Breakaways and Shipmates in their Division Four encounter at the Newton Abbot Constitutional Club, but it cost Breakaways their 100 per cent record, as they went down 329-328 to Shipmates.
It was a game which saw only two spares, both of them for Shipmates whose leading player was Paul Sercombe with 54.
Mutineers and Lion Kings fought out a 363-363 Division Five draw at Newton Abbot RBL, Tim Treeby on 55 for Mutineers and Stella Leaman getting 54 for their opponents.
