KINGSTEIGNTON'S Jamie Speight may be just two fights away from a ring showdown with a former international footballer after revealing that he's set to challenge for his first professional boxing title later this year, writes Dean Stacey.
Details of which belt Speight will be fighting for have yet to be confirmed, but the 21-year-old expects it to be either the British or International Masters crown at light-welterweight and involve a clash with his 'good mate' Ali Wyatt, at Torquay's Riviera Centre, on December 4.
Speight is of the understanding that the current possessor of the belt he'll be challenging for is set to vacate it, paving the way for the former Teign School, Kingsteignton student to box Torquay-based Wyatt, with the winner then having a mandatory defence attempt against the previous occupant.
In the case of the International Masters, that would involve trading punches with present light-welterweight title holder Curtis Woodhouse, an ex-England U21 footballer who made his name playing for Sheffield United and Birmingham City during a nine-year Football League career before turning his attention to boxing.FULL STORY IN OUR ONLINE EDITION PLUS PLENTY OF OTHER SPORT
