GLOW in the dark spray paint is being used to highlight dog mess left on Teignmouth and other beaches and seafront areas.
Dog wardens have also been out in force this week to fine owners who do not pick up their pets’ poo, and today there will be a big clear up of the mess left behind.
It is part of a Teignbridge Council campaign, Don’t Be A Dumper, aimed at combating dog fouling, which research shows is a major public concern.
What’s also a big problem is the increasing amounts of bagged dog faeces are being left behind as people fail to dispose of the bags after cleaning up after their pets.
Dog mess is not only unsightly but once the tide comes in, it also pollutes the sea and can sometimes be seen along the shoreline in dog bags. It can be harmful to marine life and takes many years to biodegrade in the ocean.
