A derelict site in the heart of historic Newton Abbot has been bought in a £50,000 deal by the people for the people.
The move should bring to an end years of trying to tidy up what has become known as Golden Lion Square.
The plot, measuring just 0.08 acres, lies in front of the grade two listed Golden Lion pub, a building described by Newton Abbot Civic Society as one of the town's 'outstanding architectural structures'.
It sits at the junction of Bank Street and Market Street and once housed a second-hand car business.
Long before that it was just another part of the street scene in what was historically one of the town's busiest thoroughfares.
