A bold attempt to put 105 children on stage at the same time paid off for staff at St Michael's C of E Primary School, Kingsteignton. Under the guidance of musical director Neil Heasman and choreographer Kate Arnold, the school laid on three successful performances of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat involving all the pupils from years three and four. 'They absolutely thrived on it and really rose to the occasion,' said Mrs Arnold. 'We had more than 100 people in the audience for each performance, some of whom were not connected with the school but who just wanted to see the show.' Mrs Arnold paid tribute to all the performers, including nine-year-old Jakeb Heywood, who played Joseph, and Brandon Wing, eight, who played the pharoah. 'They were all brilliant and sang really well,' she said. Parents such as Mandy Wing and Kerry Yates were also praised for their efforts in making the large number of costumes required. The unlikely genesis of the performances was last year's history topic, ancient Egypt. As well as helping to meet at least part of the history element of the curriculum, the production also touched on art, music and even PE. Mrs Arnold said that plans were now being drawn up for another production this summer, details of which should be made public soon.
