THE curtain can now go up on a replacement Carlton Theatre for Teignmouth, after a £1.7 million grant will be confirmed today.

Added to the £2.5 million pledged by Teignbridge Council, it means work will start in September, with completion in October 2015. Planning consent has already been approved.

The funding from the Coastal Communities Fund (CCF), part of the Big Lottery Fund, had been applied for in October, but was only guaranteed with today's announcement.

Cllr Sylvia Russell described it as: 'Wonderful news and confirms that Teignmouth is seen by the CCF as a resort of great potential. 

'The new Carlton Pavilion will attract jobs, encourage investment and help showcase the wealth of artistic talent we have here in Teignmouth. ?
