A £500 donation has been made to lst Bovey Tracey Scout Group from a new store in the town to help repairs after a vandalism attack, writes Helen Davis. And now the Scout group has responded by opening the new Tesco Express shop. Representatives of the store read an article in this newspaper about vandalism to the scout headquarters – which included broken windows, broken tiles, a recently replaced hot water flue damaged and smashed security lighting – and decided to help the Scouts. Ken Daniels, group Scout leader, said: 'We are extremely fortunate with the support we have received from the local community as we start on the repairs. 'We have now begun fundraising to raise the £4,000 needed to increase security by installing CCTV cameras, and we would like to thank the new Tesco Express for their support with this generous donation.' The new shop, which replaces the One Stop store, was formally opened on Friday by Sue Daniels, of the 1st Bovey Tracey Scout Group. She said the donation would 'make a very big difference'. Bovey Tracey mayor, Cllr George Gribble, who was at the opening said: 'I am very pleased to see the improved appearance of the shop front, and like the combination of a family outlet and general store,' he said. Tesco Express manager Sue Gallagher was delighted by reaction to the opening. 'It's all been very positive and successful,' she said: 'We've been exceptionally busy since the doors opened today at 8am.' Tesco Express employs 18 staff. Only one shopper had an a complaint on Friday. An elderly man complained that there was no copy of the Mid-Devon Advertiser for sale – but the manager promised that she will be stocking Bovey Tracey's local newspaper every week.
