THE DAY that the rains came down – as Jane Morgan so eloquently sang back in her 1958 hit.
However, there was no smiling from Mother Earth in South Devon as Storm Dennis left his wet and windy imprint over the area.
Trees were felled by wind, landslips blocked roads and the incessant rain falling on already saturated ground and into swollen rivers lead to flooding everywhere with paths and roads turning into streams and rivers and large tracts of fields resembling lakes .
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were inundated with calls over the past 48 hours responding to calls to deal with dangerous structures and flooding incidents.
Nearly a month’s worth of rain has fallen in the past 48 hours a yellow weather warning for rain is still in place until 9pm tonight (Sunday).
