Members of Bishopsteignton Probus Club enjoyed a presentation from Chris Seth-Ward who talked about playing the ukulele, showed a video and then spent an hour teaching members to play.

For 20 years he has taught people to play the ukulele, some of whom joined his ukulele band which was invited by Michael Eavis to perform at his legendary Glastonbury Festival. In recent years, Chris has taught the ukulele to cruise passengers crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

A concert performed by passengers on a recent cruise was filmed and shown to club members.

Chris supplied ukuleles for the training session and Probus club members were shown the correct way to hold the ukulele, learned the names and functions of the main parts and how to use strings and frets to play chords. Club members played some more complex music but their most successful piece was a very simple two chord performance of Polly Wolly Doodle.

Bishopsteignton Probus Club is open to retired men and those nearing retirement from a wide geographical area. There are fortnightly talks and the club also organises trips and lunches for members and their partners. For more information, telephone John Tuddenham on 01626 870004.
