PANCAKE races were revived in Chudleigh Knighton after more than 10 years on Tuesday, thanks to the village hall committee and the pre-school. The main road was closed for 20 minutes between the village stores and the Anchor Inn, for three events – under threes, pre-school children and adults. Eliza Tully, who will be two next week, had a little guidance from mum Samantha to win the under threes race, and four-year-old Ellie Soper won the pre-school event. The men were conspicuous by their absence in the adults' event and in a blanket finish Bev Evans took the honours by a whisker. The chairman of the village hall committee, Janette Parker, was delighted with the event. 'We used to have a pancake race every year and this year we thought we would try to revive it. 'We are trying to get people in the village involved in everything. It was good fun and we will do it again next year,' she said, adding that it was hoped the primary school would take part. In conjunction with the pancake races, the pre-school ran a coffee morning in the village hall. This month, residents will have the opportunity to have their say about what they want the village hall to be used for. The hall committee is sending out a consultation document to every household in Chudleigh Knighton and will analyse the responses.
