Dawlish Community College is to bid for technology status with effect from 2004.

This would provide an excellent opportunity to further improve standards of learning and achievement across the college through improved funding and resources.

A college spokesman said this week that such status emphasised the role of technology, mathematics, science and IT in the curriculum and also supported positive links between the subjects and partner schools, business and local oragnisations in the community.

The college would be able to offer local businesses and organisations greater access to the facilities and expertise in the college.

A successful application would provide an additional £500,000 of funding to the college's budget to hlep these projects.

But it requires the college to raise an initial £50,000 through sponsorship, which can be from various sources.

Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross will be guest speaker when the college gives a presentation at the college to launch the bid on Friday, March 14.
