TEIGNMOUTH’S lifeboat crew have dealt with two fatalities in the resort in the last week.

In the latest, on Sunday, they helped recover an angler who had collapsed during a competition in aid of the RNLI on the River Teign.

The casualty collapsed downstream of Coombe Cellars south of Teignharvey towards Shaldon at 1.20pm.

A friend gave him CPR treatment before the crew of the Two Annes transferred him to a slipway and on to an ambulance.

The ambulance rushed him to The Den where a coastguards helicopter was waiting to fly him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

On Thursday the lifeboat crew helped recover a man found floating in the water near the docks. He had been reported missing earlier in the day.

They ferried the casualty to the lifeboat pontoon where an ambulance was waiting to take him to the Devon Air Ambulance, which had landed at The Point car park.

The man, believed to be a local businessman in his 60s, was flown to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital at Wonford where he was later pronounced dead.
