FINALISTS for the Sports Personality of the Year Awards in Teignbridge have been unveiled this week.

The district’s very own Olympians were announced by organisers Teignbridge Council ahead of the big event at Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren on December 2.

Those in the running for honours at the Friday evening ceremony include athletes, teams, volunteers and coaches whose hard work and dedication to sport, health and physical activity across the district and many local communities will be recognised.

There are 12 different categories with each one aiming to showcase the individuals and teams who have made a huge difference in sport, physical activity or health within Teignbridge over the last year.

Kitsons Solicitors are headline sponsor for the third year running with many other well-known and established businesses sponsoring categories.

Cllr George Gribble, Teignbridge’s deputy leader and executive spokesperson for recreation and leisure, said: ‘Each year our role as judges gets tougher and tougher because the nominations get better and better!’

He added: ‘We are again grateful to Kitsons and all our category sponsors for their continued support for these wonderful awards.

‘It comes in a year that Team GB excelled at the Olympics and Paralympics.

‘We cannot wait for the big night and extend our good wishes to all the finalists.’
