TWO bin men have tested positive for coronavirus and are currently self-isolating, Teignbridge Council have confirmed today.

The council said that five colleagues of the two men, who had been in close contact, have been told to self-isolate and that any future testing will be down to the test and trace service if they also develop symptoms.

Bin collection services have seen only minor disruption as a result.

A spokesman for Teignbridge Council said: ‘We can confirm that two members of our waste and recycling team have tested positive for coronavirus. Both remain in reasonable health.

‘Five colleagues with whom they have been in recent close contact have been advised to follow the national guidance and are self-isolating. We have reported the cases to Public Health England and will take any additional actions required by them.

‘Our Covid-secure processes within the service limit the scope for close contact and onward transmission. This should limit the spread of the virus within the workforce.

‘However, as a result of staff self-isolating there has been some minor disruption to collections, but our waste and recycling team is pulling together and working hard to ensure all required work is completed.’
