A DELAYED rural broadband scheme is to be shelved by Teignbridge council. The scheme has been hit by delays after difficulties in finding a suitable contractor to carry out network improvements.

Shouts of ‘shame on you’ were heard from Councillor Stephen Purser who blasted Lib Dem councillors for ‘abandoning’ rural communities at the council’s Overview and Scrutiny meeting on Tuesday.

Infuriated Cllr Purser of the Teign Valley ward said: ‘You have abandoned rural communities who have been hit so hard, rural towns and villages that have terrible transport links, and need a proper internet connection.’
