FIRE stations in Teignbridge have joined their colleagues from across the country in paying tribute to the three people, two of whom were firefighters, that died after a fire in Oxfordshire.

The blaze, which broke out at Bicester Motion last Thursday, claimed the lives of two firefighters and a member of the public.

Two more firefighters remain in hospital.

Jennie Logan, 30, and Martyn Sadler, 38, died while tackling the fire.

David Chester, 57, who ran a business at the site, also died.

In the wake of the tragic incident, fire stations across the country have been expressing their condolences, including a number of stations in Teignbridge.

‘All of us here at Newton Abbot Fire Station are truly saddened by their loss, and its incidents like these that bring into perspective the risks we may have to face when protecting our local communities’ a spokesperson for the station said.

‘You can be sure that all of our thoughts and best wishes will be with the families affected by this tragic incident, as well as with the firefighters of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service as they try to come to terms with what has happened during this incredibly difficult time’ the spokesperson added.

Bovey Tracey Fire Station uploaded a poignant poem to its Facebook page in condolence, with several other stations posting the ‘thin-red line’ image, signifying support for firefighters.

‘We are devastated to hear of the loss of two firefighters and a member of the public during an incident in Oxfordshire’ a spokesperson for Buckfastleigh Fire Station said.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of those who have sadly lost their lives.

‘We are also thinking of the injured firefighters who are recovering.

‘Our hearts go out to our colleagues at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service - we are in mourning with you’ the spokesperson added.
