TWO women from the Teignbidge area have been honoured for the parts they have played in the helping with the coronavirus pandemic.

Care home manager Clare Thomas and special school teacher Peta Hustwayte have both been mentioned in the delayed Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

The list was postponed from June in order to include people who have been instrumental in the Covid-19 effort and it celebrates the good deeds of famous names as well as ordinary people during the pandemic.

Clare Thomas, home manager of the Ilford Park Polish Home at Stover has been awarded an MBE.

She has been commended for demonstrating new and inspiration levels during the lockdown period at the home and working tirelessly, every day, to provide a continuous reassuring presence for the staff, and a familiar and friendly face for the residents.

Meanwhile teacher Peta Hustwayte, from Newton Abbot, has been awarded the British Empire Medal.

Peta works at independent special school The Greater Horseshoe at Heathfield, where she was responsible for a home-learning package for students unable to attend the school, which stayed open throughout lockdown.

We’ll have more on this story in next week’s Mid-Devon Advertiser.
