TRADITIONAL Christmas carols and less well known items will be sung at the annual Christmas concert at St James’ Church tomorrow, Wednesday 14.
It is organised by the Teign Choral society and the Teignmouth Hospital League of Friends, and will also include songs from the Kingsteignton Brownie pack, and the cantata Christus Natus, by Cecilia McDowell, which strongly evokes a medieval Christmas, and includes Gaudete, which was popularised by Steeleye Span in the 1960s.
The concert will be conducted by David Bowles, with accompaniment by Aubrey Mabin.
Tickets include seasonal refreshments and are available from Teign Music, choir members, the League of Friends committee members, and at the door. The concert starts at 7.30m.
The society’s May concert promises to be exciting, as they will be performing the British premiere of Cesar Franck’s Seven Last Words from the Cross. It was discovered after his death and was recognised as a masterpiece, fit to stand beside Haydn’s similarly named work.
