Teignmouth's season ended with a home defeat against champions Royal Marines.

With Teigns undefeated in their last five games and the Marines having lost their two games since clinching the championship, a home victory looked a possibility.

Both sides started tentatively with nothing of real note to excite the decent sized Coombe Valley crowd.

Alex Blackburn and Scott Baxter were keeping the visiting forwards shackled until the 28th minute when Darren Shrubb saved the Marines' first effort on goal.

Teigns' reply was instant and Craig Stonelake got through but dithered in the penalty area and the Marines keeper saved his shot.

The hosts created further chances. A quick pass from Adam Fay put Adam Hill through and his shot needed a good save from the visiting keeper to prevent the opening goal.

Hill then won a free-kick on the edge of the box, and Geoff Breslan's resultant dead ball strike fizzed over the crossbar. John Vile's pace wide on the right caused the visitors' defence concern, but Teigns couldn't supply the finish to his crosses.

The Marines wrestled back the initiative and Shrubb palmed away a dangerous cross for a corner. The resultant flag kick caused confusion in the penalty area and Teigns were lucky when the ball was hammered wide of the goal.

The Marines continued to press and Shrubb was quick off his line to cut out a dangerous through ball.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 41st minute the visitors sliced open home defence with one touch football, ending with Duchenski heading home.

The second half began well for the hosts, with Fay's long distance volley and a skilful turn and shot both just failing to find the target.

On the hour the visitors doubled their lead. Shrubb did well to save at the feet of Marines' midfielder Boere, who reacted quickest to head home the loose ball.

Paul Tucker then came on for Terry Breslan and almost pulled a goal back, heading Geoff Breslan's corner inches wide.

With 76 minutes played the Marines put the game out of reach with a third goal when Saunders rounded off a good move with a confident finish.

Teignmouth found their rhythm and Ian Wilkinson had two efforts saved.

With ten minutes remaining, Fay left the action to be replaced by Jamie Surman, which proved to be a master stroke from joint manager Andy Paddon.

The Teigns' veteran found himself in the right place a the right time to put the ball in the back of the net from a yard out after Andy Breslan's 25 yard strike was saved, then Tucker's follow up shot was blocked for the ball to run kindly for Surman to grab the consolation goal, much to the delight of the Coombe Valley faithful.

The defeat means Teignmouth finished in 11th place in the table, winning 15 games, drawing five, losing 14, scoring 81 goals, conceding 77, with a points total of 50.
