A nationwide scam in which elderly residents in Teignbridge became victims ended on Tuesday in dawn swoops on suspects in the London area.

More than 300 people in the south west were duped by the offenders, who posed as Metropolitan Police officers investigating supposed credit card thefts.

Publicity by police is thought to have saved Teignbridge from the worst.
