THE first in a series of planned renovations to some of Teignbridge's tennis courts has gotten underway.

Work began on three courts at Forde Park, Newton Abbot, on Monday, June 26, and is expected to take somewhere in the region of three weeks.

Once finished a new online booking platform is to be set up by Teignbridge District Council.

The council will operate an electronic access gate system allowing people to book and pay online, and provide them with a code to access the court.

Teignbridge teamed up with the Lawn Tennis Association to refurbish public courts in Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Buckfastleigh as part of a national drive to open up the sport and encourage more people to pick up a racquet.
