Independent candidate David Weekes, formerly a Liberal Democrat councillor for the ward, came fourth out of the five people standing. Sylvia Russell retained her seat and is joined by fellow Tory Vince Fusco who returns to the chamber after a gap of several years. Cllr Russell said: 'I feel elated, the best result I have ever had. Cllr Fusco added: 'I feel terrific about it all.' Jeremy Christophers, leader of the Conservative group, said the win was more comfortable than he had expected. 'Our two candidates have worked hard and people have voted for them as they know they do everything they can to represent them.' Cllr Russell took 1,030 votes, Cllr Fusco 860. Lib Dems Christopher Bray and Donald Baldey took 633 and 598 respectively. David Weekes had 443 and independent Colin Authers 245. The turnout was 51.84 per cent
