On the morning of September 11, 2001, Tania Riddell was on her way to work as the editor of a national bridal magazine in New York. Tania, a former student of Knowles Hill School (now Newton Abbot College), said: 'I lived on 24th Street and Lexington. I was in the lift in my apartment building when the first plane hit so I did not hear anything. 'I remember it was a beautiful sunny crisp morning, not a cloud in the sky. On my journey to work I walked across Fifth Avenue. It felt very strange as the traffic had stopped and people were just standing around on the pavements and in the road. They were looking downtown in shock. 'I was rushing as I was late for work and I noticed flames towards the top of one of the towers, "Oh just a fire" I thought. 'I must have just missed the impact by minutes as at that time there were not even any sirens that I could hear. I had no idea what had just happened and I just continued on my way.'
