ARTHUR WILES, of Kemp Mews, Ashburton, writes:
Is it perhaps impertinent of me to disagree with the writer of the letter who considers the new colours of the town hall to be abysmal, as I am a newcomer to the town and have only lived here for three years.
I welcome the change and think that orange is a delightful colour.
I admit to being biased, for it reminds me of the Netherlands. My elder daughter is married to a Dutchman and, in my 63 visits to that country, I have always found Dutch people to be very friendly and welcoming.
I particularly admire them for their courage and fortitude while under enemy occupation in the second world war.
I joined them in the celebrations on their Liberation Day on April 5 .
I suggest that democracy prevails. We are going to vote on June 4 next – could we have a separate poll to see whether we should accept the offer of 'the group' who are prepared to repaint the hall in other colours?
I apologise to your readers who disagree with me and visit friends in Kemp Mews as I intend to paint my home a brilliant orange.
