A TEIGNMOUTH bull terrier is to reprise his role as one of literature's favourite canines.

Six-year-old Alfie, who was rescued as a pup at Foredown Kennels, Kingskerswell, will take on the role of Bullseye, the constant companion of Bill Sykes in a new production of Oliver! at the Northcott Theatre, Exeter. He has taken to the stage before and impressed audiences. Owner Sue Parker said: 'He was first spotted when we were walking on the beach and asked if he would play the role. 'The director was very impressed with him and the show was a great success, so when we knew that they needed a dog for this production, he was the one for the job.' Alfie has been rehearsing with Sykes (Richard Moyer). 'The main attributes he needs for the role are good behaviour and to walk on and off the stage with Bill,' said Mrs Parker. 'He thoroughly enjoys it,' she said.
