THE new year has barely started and already the Granite Elements calendar has begun to fill up.

The arts project, which is part of the lottery-funded Moor than Meets the Eye programme, will be hosting a lecture by guest speaker Kevin Page, a geologist from Plymouth University.

Kevin will be speaking at the Yarner Nature Reserve woodland centre near Bovey Tracey today from 10am to midday. For more information call Albert Knott of Natural England on 01626 831581.

The following Saturday, January 28, a creative writing workshop will be happening at the centre from 10am to 1pm.

Jackie Juno will be leading the workshop in this stunning location, part of which will be taking place outdoors, weather permitting, so bring suitable clothing.

Poetry and prose inspired by the landscape will no doubt be the main subject on the day and everyone, be they novice or experienced, is welcome to take part. This event is bound to be heavily subscribed so a deposit of £5 is asked to reserve your place. This will be refunded in full on the day.
