TEIGNBRIDGE sea cadets have achieved another honour.

They were awarded their third pennant in a row for achieving above average scores in an MoD training scheme.

It came after TS Canonteign Sea Cadets held their bi-annual Royal Navy Parade – the final and ceremonial part of a three- part inspection regime, which ensures the unit is operating safely and correctly.

The parade was carried out by the Sea Cadets South West Area Officer, Commander Nigel Morton, based at HMS Flying Fox, who recommended the award.

The pennant was presented at Dawlish Air Show – where the unit provided security for the helicopter park, and safety boats to patrol the sea flying exclusion zone – by Lieut Cmdr Richard Boyes, the pilot of the duty air sea rescue helicopter from 771 squadron, based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.

This was the last time the squadron displayed its rescue and flying skills at the show.

From the end of the year, all military air sea rescue services in the UK cease when a coastguard private contractor takes over the role.
