EDNA Bond has something in common with her more famous fictitious namesake… three numbers after her name, writes Paul James.

But while Connery, Craig, Brosnan et al can only muster 007 between them their digital ally can boast an impressive 102 – her remarkable vintage.

Reaching the landmark age was celebrated by family and friends with a ‘This is Your Life’ treat for the birthday girl at Christow’s village hall on Tuesday.

Aintree-born Edna – who moved from her native Lancashire six years ago to be nearer her Teignbridge-based son Phil Trotter – was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected fuss made of her on the day.

‘It all went very well. She knew nothing about what was planned,’ said Phil who revealed another get-together celebration was planned this weekend.

He described his mum – who grew up just down the road from the famous Grand National racecourse where she would frequently stroll in her early days – as a fiercely independent woman who knows her mind.

In her long life she has seen 25 Prime Ministers run the country and four monarchs.

Living more than a century has taken its toll on the doughy survivor who admits she can’t get around as speedily as she would like to.

‘She gets very frustrated that she can no longer do what she used to,’ admitted Phil.

But she declared herself well pleased with the birthday she shared with her pals from the Acorn community support group. And she has adapted well to her new life in Devon.

‘She loves it,’ said Phil.
