THREE cars were involved in a road smash on the A38 near Drumbridges at the weekend.

One driver was taken to hospital for a check-up after the incident, which happened on the Plymouth-bound carriageway about half-a-mile from the turn-off to Newton Abbot.

Fire crews from Ashburton, Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot attended Sunday evening’s incident together with paramedics and police.

The cars involved were a gold Nissan from Plymouth, a blue Ford Focus from Dartmouth and and a VW from Buckinghamshire. It is understood one of the cars hit a central reservation. Another car was involved in a second collision as it parked up to protect the crashed vehicle from oncoming traffic.

The casualty was treated for shock at the scene before being taken to hospital for a check-up.

The accident happened just before 7pm. The road was clear by 8.30pm. Two of the cars had to be recovered from the scene. Fire crews made the vehicles safe.
