Bovey Tracey Over 60s Club was formed in October 1961 by a few pensioners looking for something to do purely as a social club they played games, cards, and enjoyed each other’s company with tea and cake.
After a few weeks they had 80 members and started to have speakers, parties on special occasions and summer coach trips.
In the early days the admission was 1d weekly and 3d for tea and cake – it is a little more now but still good value.
In the past they played a big part in fund raising for Bovey Tracey Carnival and took part in the regional competition held at Torquay Town Hall winning many individual trophies.
We celebrated our special birthday with afternoon tea at The Livermead Cliff Hotel Torquay and entertainment with Martyn Rollings who gave us a very enjoyable performance as you can see from the photograph it was a perfect day.
We will be having our Christmas Lunch at The Livermead Cliff Hotel in December.
Anyone who is over 60 is welcome to become a member. We meet at the Wickham Hall on Wednesday afternoons 2pm-4 pm. At the moment owing to the hall being refurbished we are meeting in St Johns Church which is opposite.
