VOLUNTEERS and villagers are celebrating the news that Stokeinteignhead community shop has been shortlisted for a national award.

Residents rallied to save the business when it was threatened with closure in 2008.

Following a successful community buyout it now thrives. Last year sales topped £124,000 with an operating profit of more than £1,200.

Manager Francesca Rolph, who took on the job nine months ago, said: 'The nomination is fabulous news, really wonderful and we're very excited.
