A ticking Blackberry sparked a bomb alert at Newton Abbot railway station on Monday.

Passengers on the 9.06am London to Plymouth service alerted the guard, afraid that a fellow passenger was a suicide bomber.

Around seven uniformed officers raced to the station after rail staff raised the alarm at 11.44am .

A 23-year-old Kuwaiti passenger was searched and was found to be carrying nothing more dangerous than a Blackberry phone.
