TWO of Teignmouth’s town centre phone boxes got a make-over thanks to the efforts of volunteers on Sunday.

The iconic ‘K6’ red phone boxes had been moved across the road from the Triangle in the 1980s.

Over the years the boxes had become run down and shabby. Volunteers treated the phone boxes to a good clean inside and before scrapping and sanding the outside ready to be painted with grey undercoat.

The boxes were painted with grey undercoat donated by local tattooist, Nigel Pitman. Then on Monday the phone boxes got a coat of bright red paint, donated by deputy mayor Peter Williams.

Teignmouth councillor, David Cox, said: ‘Teignmouth has a great community spirit and this was a great example, pleased I was able to help.’
