WITH BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend just around the corner, ticketholders have until Saturday, May 21, to book their transport to get to Powderham Castle.

Festival-goers are running out of time to pre-book transport including limited parking and park and ride services which have been specially laid on.

Punters will also be able to use public transport with Great Western Railway putting on 50 extra train services to Starcross and Stagecoach are running extra Number 2 buses.

The Big Weekend takes place on May 28 and 29 and will see 50,000 people descend on the castle over the two-day event to watch acts including Coldplay, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas and Mumford and Sons.

Jeremy Christophers, leader of Teignbridge Council which put £100,000 towards the gig, said: ‘Now that people have got their tickets in their hands, it is a great time to plan your travel and pre-book the special event park and rides, or get your public transport sorted.

‘It will also take the stress out of the day so you can enjoy all the great artists and bands on the line-up.’

Cllr Christophers added: ‘Powderham is a unique location and is going to be a fantastic backdrop for the Big Weekend, but roads are also likely to be busy over the bank holiday.

‘To help manage the traffic flow and ensure road safety, people will not be able to stop and drop off or pick up passengers close to the site before or after the event.

‘Whether you are local or new to the area, now is the time to get organised - and then all we need is some sunshine.’
