A question mark hangs over the future of town development manager Sally Henley after the loss of Newton Abbot's £l million shot in the arm business bid.

Multi-national businesses refused to play ball in making the town a Business Improvement District for the next five years.

And the subsquent loss of vital finance also means Ms Henley's position is in jeopardy.

A driving force behind the Bid application, Ms Henley's three-year contract had been extended to the end of March next year in order for her to deliver the scheme.

But it has become clear that the refusal by some big businesses in the town to back the Bid all the way has created uncertainty.

This week, town councillors said they would be most disappointed if Ms Henley's job was to be lost.
