TEIGNMOUTH Players won the overall trophy in the 15th Teignmouth Drama Festival, against competition from nine other south Devon groups.

Their entry was Newgate, written by Wendy Hayden-Sadler, whose daughter Rebekah took the lead part and also won the best actress award.

One of the main organisers of the festival, Freda Welton, was given a special award at the Carlton Theatre on Saturday by the adjudicator, Graham Bill, for her outstanding contribution to the event. Normally it goes to one of the drama groups or an actor.
